i'm an abstract painter, abstract expressionist most of the time. i work in a large variety of mediums. i draw psychedelic pictures with sharpies from time to time. i take photographs from time to time. i love the arts; they inspire me and they are my therapy. i have fibromyalgia and and spinal stenosis along with diabetes and a variety of mental illnesses. the main one is bipolar disorder. i love rescue animals, the interwebz, my husband, my dog, my dad, the arts, rocknroll, coffee, tattoos, diet coke, and going to the movies alone! Ah I can see it now. Especially if I half close my eyes and de/focus. It’s a hillside with a house on it isn’t it. With a thatched roof. And smoke coming from the chimney. And a cat sitting on the doorstep. And through the window I can see a rosy-cheeked woman rolling pastry and she’s got flower on her nose, and there’s a pie base full of chopped apple and blackberries, and a butterfly flies in and floats about, landing on a daffodil in the vase on the kitchen table….and…

awesome! i have totally succeeded with this drawing if made you see all that! yay! you have a good imagination. i really work hard, in painting and drawing, to make them sort of an optical illusion, lots of shapes that different people see in different way! thanks much! 🙂

🙂 I think you should do one in orange and red. Happy colours will make you happy.
I wish I had that artistic flare for expression.
I bet these look great filling a plain white wall in the sunshine.

i take requests lol, just like what you’re saying, a mood and some colors. i’ll give it a go! sometimes it takes me a really long time to get the pattern going, but i love doing it.
i think it would look great looking like you say. it makes me wish it could be a lot bigger. sometimes i do stuff like this on 11″x15″, but this is close to 8.5″x11″. the bigger ones are even more exciting. lol
you could doodle, just for the helluva it! these aren’t that hard to do, if you practice (and have patience). doodling doesn’t have to be fancy like this. 🙂

I would imagine you get into a very absorbed but peaceful state of mind where nothing else matters doing this.

absolutely, it’s like a sedative. it makes me feel like i’m in a trance if i get really into it. sometimes i’ll sit down and do it all in one go, 8 or 9 hours at a time. i get very focused, which is great because i have a hard time concentrating, usually. 🙂

thanks! ohhh yeah, i know what you mean, funny thing is that i can never see those, no matter how hard i try!
when i make drawings like these, i build shapes upon shapes, only focusing on the small details. i have no idea what it’s going to look like as a whole until i finish and look at it from a further away. i didn’t know the negative space even showed up like this! 🙂

It looks like it would be therapeutic to do and that comes out as a therapeutic effect on the viewer. It’s the randomness built into the repetitive pattern that catches the eye. It’s pleasingly irregular while retaining a regularity overall, if that makes sense.

it sure does make sense. i don’t try to make any of the shapes perfect, it seems like it would be too cold and empty. it would be easy to do it digitally, but i don’t think it would be as good. so yeah, randomness is awesome!
when i screw iup it makes me really angry at myself, though, which is not cool at all! usually i can get over it and keep going. there are a few ,mistakes that almost made me throw it out, but i made myself finish. i don’t think anyone but me will see them. 🙂
